Software Engineer
Position Description:
Software Engineer
As a Software Engineer you will play an integral role in the R&D Department, involved in designing software for new products and developing
enhancements to the current product range. You must have a degree in Engineering or related subject, with 2-5 years practical experience in a
relevant position, an understanding of embedded systems and software, and the ability to quickly translate user requirements into practical designs. Other traits sought are the personality to work
with others harmoniously and productively in a friendly, informal atmosphere, but also independently when necessary. You will be somebody who
has an eye for taking new technologies and incorporating them into real products.
Responsibilities may include:
* researching, designing and writing new software programs;
* testing new programs and fault finding;
* developing existing programs by analysing and identifying areas for modification;
* 'bolting together' existing software products and getting incompatible platforms to work together;
* investigating new technologies;
* creating technical specifications and test plans;
* working with computer coding languages;
* writing operational documentation with technical authors;
* maintaining systems by monitoring and correcting software defects;
* working closely with other staff, such as project managers, graphic artists, systems analysts, and sales and marketing
professionals;
* consulting clients/colleagues concerning the maintenance and performance of software systems and asking questions to
obtain information, clarify details and implement information;
* constantly updating technical knowledge and skills by attending in-house and/or external courses, reading manuals and
accessing new applications;
* problem-solving and thinking laterally as part of a team, or individually, to meet the needs of the project.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in related field
* 2-5 years experience in a “Start-up” environment
* Direct experience in pharmaceutical or related industries
* Experience with optical spectroscopy - NIR a plus
* Familiarity with data analysis and chemometrics would also be helpful
* Some self-governance is expected, but the successful candidate will be operating in an interdisciplinary environment in most activities
* Knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint and other software/internet based applications
